In a small country like Slovenia, but strategic importance from ancient times onwards,
was from 10 century, built hundreds of castles, palaces and manor feudal lords.
Taking into account existing facilities, or rolled out, either renovated or rolled out,
many of their existence show only modest ruins or traces in land
(a few stones, the remains of defensive ditches and dikes), as well as archival records
and folk Tradition, then to the Slovenian cost over seven hundred and medieval buildings.

At the 10th and 11 century, there were no significant feudal centers and dioceses -
tion seats, so the nobility, which is ruled in our country, prevailed with a powerful gra -
ving outside Slovenia. However, secular and religious fevdals within their territories
our soil soon built a large number of small castles, which are managed by their fevdals
and ministerial. Giant land complexes were then owned by the church (Aquileia
patriarhi, Salzburg archdiocese, Krk, Brixen, Bamberg and Freising Diocese and
a number of monasteries), high fertility families (Spanheims, Bamberžans, Andechs, free of Zeltschach,
Traungavs ...) and large Ortenburžans feudal lords, the Counts of Gorizia and Duino, free
Mr Žovnešks, subsequent counts and princes of Celje, which they acquired the former property
Savinšek counts free of Zeltschach, but Auersperg, Counts Višnjegorskih and other feudal families.

On the cliffs, the tops of mountains with steep slopes, wherever it was possible to access
only on one side, it was HE defend generated castles. Original feudal fortress
were castles tower, high tower multifloor also 2 and half meter thick walls of
trimmed or broken stones, intended more as a defense to housing and comfort, with
small windows - bullet crenels and entrance on the first floor with access by ladder or
stairs, or even through the lifting bridge. The tower is set on first wooden walls (fencing),
then brick, and was further protected by one or even multiple moat. Top
Typical examples of the Slovenian castles tower are more than ten meters high retained
Castle ruins above Cretež Mokronog and Freising near the city of Krancelj over Škofja Loka.

In a further decades and centuries Romanesque tower castles began at the Slovenian
processed and disseminated. From them have over time become a great castles (circumferential and housing),
which experienced a peak in the Gothic to Renaissance and later processing. Important castles had
inside the walls and additional buildings to house residentač (palladium), powerful defense
Tower (bergfried) and chapel, as well as economic and other facilities. On the Slovenian thus incurred
mighty castles, as the example the Castle Rock in Begunje, Turjak and Žužemberk - Dolenjska,
Konjice, Podsreda, Bizeljsko and Krunšperk in Styria, and Socerb Rihemberk of Primorska.
Many of them such, which are certainly equivalent to those obtained in neighboring countries and were then
the pride of the owners, but they capture some of the travelers, who traveled through our country.

In the 16th century, began to phase out fevdals uncomfortable cities in the heights and began to rebuild
a number of palaces and castles in the lowlands and cities have put up a luxurious palace. Pinnacle
this castle architecture seen in the Baroque period, when the beads resulted in many of our cultural heritage,
among them castles in Haasberk Planina, Štatenberg, Dornava, Kromberk, Vogrsko and others.

Many medieval castle at the time began to change in the ruins, where it previously did not
affected by numerous fires and earthquakes (catastrophic earthquake in 1511 destroyed many castles)
or by fevdals themselves abandoned, such as the castles of the Marienberg Šmarna burns Falkenberg
under Kurešček through hundreds of castles were torn between peasant uprisings, many city was destroyed
in a number of feudal wars, which raged on our soil, or destroyed by the Turks. Also in
World War II the castle was not spared the facility, as partisans burned down a few dozen castles in
Slovenia, which are (or could be) embedded military occupier of the crew.

Thus, the walls of the castle ruins of the century destroyed by earthquakes, typhoons, storms and mountain snow
frost, the ruin of many a castle to the surrounding villages has become a welcome to the quarry already-data processing
lanim trimmed stones, destroying them is a negligent attitude towards the human cultural heritage.
Even today, as always mighty castles remain just what the wall is still part of the case.
